Ski Trip 2011

A number of pupils and staff enjoyed a very
successful ski trip to the south of France in January. The hotel staff and ski
instructors were highly impressed by Dunluce School pupils’ friendliness and
good manners. It’s always good to know that our pupils are great ambassadors
for the school.
The pupils and staff enjoyed their trip to Serre Chevalier so much that they’re
planning to return to the same hotel and resort in 2012, departing 14th
January. As some places may still be available, anyone interested in going who
has not already done so should contact Mr. Dougherty as soon as possible.
“I was so excited when I got up early on
Sunday morning at 3.45 a.m. to catch our flight to Geneva, Switzerland from
Belfast International Airport.
When we arrived and were all checked in we
were allowed to look around the airport with our friends. We had to meet back
at a certain time, but of course we got carried away and were three minutes
late and everyone else was waiting for us.
We got our flight and before we knew it we
were landing at Geneva Airport. It was a four-hour bus journey to our resort in
France, staying at the Hotel Frejus.
We were warmly welcomed by Sue the
Manageress and our ski rep Zoe, who kitted us out with our skis, boots and
helmets. We went up to our hotel room and left our ski stuff in the room. After
tea everyone had an early night.
The next day we got to meet our ski
instructors called Elionore and Patrick, which was an unusual name for a
Frenchman. We had a full day of skiing, with a break for lunch.
During the week we visited the ski park
with ski jumps, which were scary but really fun. We also skied down ‘green’
slopes, which are the easiest kind.
Every evening we did a different activity,
including a games night, ice skating, quiz, bum boarding, town trail, movie
night and a disco on the last night. On the night of the disco, the last song
played was “I’ve had the time of my life”. Everyone was singing along and we
had the hotel to ourselves so we went round in a conga line. Joshua Diamond
dressed in one of the fifth year girl’s clothes. Ian also put on Pamela’s sleep
suit. It was a really fun night.
The Friday of our trip was Emily’s birthday
and the Hotel staff made her a birthday cake. Everyone signed a card for her.
April, Zoe and Pamela got her a present, as did Megan.
There were 20 pupils on the trip, 11 boys
and 9 girls. We really enjoyed ourselves so much we would like to go again next
year.”
