Year 8 Intake
One of the most interesting statistics in
any school these days is their intake figure. Our enrolment of 100 pupils in
September keeps us firmly in the number one spot, with the highest intake for a
non-selective secondary level school in the Coleraine area.
Once again, local parents and pupils have
put their faith in Dunluce as their school of choice, believing that here they
will reach their full potential in and out of the classroom.
We welcome each and every new pupil. They
certainly look the part in their smart new uniforms and bring with them all the
individual gifts and abilities we have come to expect of young people in this
area.
Our hope is that they will settle in
quickly (as seems to be the case, judging by their ‘Big School’ day) and enjoy
being part of the Dunluce ‘family’.

Badge of honour
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed
how many badges have appeared on our school uniforms over the past couple of
years. Here’s one example of a collection one keen junior pupil is working on
...! Then there are the Prefects’
badges, the School Environment Team, Librarians... The list goes on.
It’s great to see how many pupils are
prepared to get involved in things and wear their badges with pride.

Why’s my uniform getting so heavy?
This badge thing has really caught on this
term, with every pupil in the school receiving a coloured badge to wear. This
identifies their School House and ties in with a new scheme which began this
year in Year 8.
Each pupil has been allocated to one of the
four new Houses in Dunluce, named after famous rocky headlands found on the
North Antrim Coast:
Runkerry House .........Blue badge
Ramore House.........Yellow badge
Causeway House.......Green badge
Benbane House.............Red badge
When pupils compete on Sports Day or inter-house
competitions (e.g. hockey, football, table tennis, etc.) they will win points
for their house. They can also win points for attitude, appearance, homeworks,
etc. At the end of the year the winning house will receive a trophy.
This scheme should provide quite an
incentive to our pupils in a wide range of activities, all in a spirit of
healthy competition!
