Art & Design Department
The Art & Design Department has this year really embraced the principles of the Revised Curriculum. The planning process, which started two years ago, is near completion, with Year 8 following a concise and exciting programme of study. All pupils have been given the opportunity to explore a wide range of techniques and mediums, ranging from ceramics to digital photography / image manipulation. Especially new to the subject, pupils have been encouraged to contribute more independently to their own learning, by being actively involved in group appraisal sessions. Also in progress is a collaborative unit with history, geography and citizenship, entitled “Who am I?” An initiative encouraged by the Revised Curriculum, it encourages connected learning across subjects. The department intends to explore this concept with other themes and Year Groups during the on-going curriculum changes ahead.
Many congratulations to Tanith Speers and Natalie McGill, Year 8, for their creative interpretations of Christmas, depicted in stunning Christmas cards professionally printed and distributed by the school.
Congratulations also to Rosiyana Holmstedt, whose exciting ceramic sculpture attained 2nd place in Coleraine Art Society’s Annual Art Exhibition in the Town Hall. This is particularly impressive as Rosiyana’s work was judged alongside pieces from local AS and A Level students.
