BTEC Sport

BTEC level 2 extended certificate in sport is a vocational qualification for those interested in a career in the sports industry. The course all relates to sport: learning about the body and how it responds to exercise, training, fitness programmes, risk assessment, health and safety and illness and injury.

Over the course of Years 11 and 12 pupils complete the following units of work:

• Fitness testing and training
• Practical Sport (one team sport and one individual sport)
• Physiology and Anatomy
• Injury in sport

The BTEC level 2 extended certificate in sport is assessed on a continual basis and is the equivalent to 2 GCSE’s.

The first cohort of students completed the course in June 2013 and achieved an impressive set of results. 100% of the pupils passed the course achieving the equivalent of 2 GCSE’s (A* - C). It is pleasing to note that a number of the pupils have continued to study sport at Northern Regional College where they are undertaking Btec extended Diploma’s in Sport and Exercise Science or Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness.
