Causeway Ramble

No sooner had we handed over last year’s cheque to the Ulster Cancer Foundation, than we began preparations for our next big ‘day out’. On a bright and breezy June day, the whole school took part in our annual sponsored walk for UCF (our nominated charity here in Dunluce). Not only did the weather do us a favour, the pupils who did the walk also did themselves proud. It was a delight for the staff to accompany them along the tram walkway all the way to the Causeway stones, and to hear so much praise from tourists and Causeway staff
As you can see from the photographs, this was a highly enjoyable and memorable day. Pupils and teachers were out of class, the Causeway looked at its best, and lots of money was raised for charity as well. At the time of writing almost £6,000 has been collected. This continues the brilliant record our pupils and their families have in supporting the Ulster Cancer Foundation.
Many thanks to Mr. Scullion and Miss McBride for organizing the event and to all who raised so much. Even the canteen staff played a part, laying on a special ‘Ramble’ menu back in the canteen at the end of our journey. Thanks are also due to the PSNI for providing ‘cover’ on crossing the main coast road, Bushfoot Golf Club, for putting up with us tramping across one of their fairways, and the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre staff, for coping so well with an influx of 400 hungry pupils. Even the engineers of the Causeway Railway helped out on the day, providing an extra spectacle as we passed the engine sheds. (Ryan Bell’s dad is one of the engineers, so he was keen to let Ryan’s friends see him at work)
