Our Year 12 Footballers took on Dalriada at home on Wednesday and battled to a 2:1 win.

Dalriada had been unbeaten in the league up to this point so it was a pleasing result for the team and their coach, Mr Parker.

The teams were evenly matched and it was a tight contest from the kick off to the final whistle.  Lewis Quin did a good job of commanding the midfield in the first half. And the defence held strong.

Dean Shirlow gave Dunluce the lead before halftime when he rounded the Dalriada keeper and finished smartly past the defender on the line.

After the break Dalriada pushed hard for the equaliser, and almost got it halfway through the second half when they were awarded a penalty.  Dunluce goalkeeper Jordan Mark, however, guessed right and managed to push the ball away to his left.

Dalriada continued to press, leaving gaps at the back, and Jason Lee Moorcroft exploited this as Dunluce were able to hit the visitors on the break.  He collected a long ball down the left and beat two tackles before rounding the goalie and finishing cooly into the empty net.

After that Dalriada increased the pressure even further and Dunluce found themselves having to defend deeper and deeper. The Ballymoney side did pull a goal back seven minutes from time, leading to a nervy end to the game. Dalriada threw everyone forward in seach of the equaliser and Jordan Mark had to make several saves in the closing minutes.

Seconds from the whistle a goal mouth scramble almost led to the Dalriada leveller.  The ball rolled along the line, and as Dalriada players flung themselves at it our defence used every ounce of their resolve to block the shots.  Eventually Aaron McLaughlin was able to shepherd the ball out behind the net.  The resulting corner was cleared and the final whistle blown.

It was a close and hard fought victory for the Dunluce team, but well deserved.
