Giant success
Pupils from our Art Department took a giant step recently. They entered and won a local schools competition run by the National Trust. Their challenge was to create a presentation on behalf of the Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland’s only World Heritage Site. That success was just the start, as they went on to much bigger things.....
Winning meant that our team qualified to travel to Lyme Regis on the south coast of England, to represent the Causeway at the first ever UNESCO UK World Heritage Youth Summit in May. Ten world heritage sites were being featured, and the teachers who accompanied our team, Miss Harrison and Mr. Loughrey, were delighted when our school was chosen to represent Northern Ireland.
The pupils involved were Courtney Dinsmore, Rebekah January, Gillian Goodman, Daniel McKee, Charles Moore and Mark McClenaghan. They gave a very impressive presentation about the Causeway, and also learned about the other sites.
One of the local organizers, Lisa McCaughan (National Trust Environmental Learning Officer), said: ”I am delighted that the pupils from Dunluce have had the chance to participate in the wider UNESCO UK World Heritage Summit. During the conference the young people represented the Giant’s Causeway magnificently and it was an enriching experience for everyone.” Well done to all involved for doing themselves and the school proud.
