Leisure & tourism department

This year saw the first cohort of pupils finish our newly-introduced Leisure & Tourism double-award GCE. It was a very exciting course and was enjoyed by everyone. The course was 2/3 coursework and therefore pupils had a lot of out-of-school visits to accommodate this.
One of the places they used as part of their study was the Bushmills Inn. After a lot of Fridays spent ‘touring and taking’ the girls knew all there was to know about marketing, thanks to Mr. Alan Dunlop. As part of this unit they also visited the Anchorage Inn, Portstewart, where the manager Danny Coyles provided them with a wealth of information.
Their second piece of coursework was about Customer Service and for this the pupils used the Giant’s Causeway for their case study. The staff were extremely helpful and the pupils found it both informative and really enjoyable.
We are delighted to have introduced this course through the Geography Department and hope that it continues for many years to come. This type of course allows the pupils to deal with real-life situations in an area dominated by the tourist industry. It also lets the pupils gain experiences and obtain skills and qualities that will be extremely useful to them in future years.
