Mathematics department

The Mathematics Department had a string of deja-vu moments throughout 2007/08. Our department have suffered from suspended syllabi, changes of Board and the implementation of revised assessment procedures for about 6 years. This year saw more change.
However, we have prevailed and can declare that 2007/08 was another successful year. Our KS3 results have been outstanding and show a measurable improvement on our already-good results from previous years.
This year at GCSE we finish one syllabus with Year 12 with the promise of good results and launch another modular, non-coursework syllabus with Year 11. Plus ca change!
In line with other learning areas in the school, we have been busy redrafting our schemes of work for KS3, and adopting a more activity-based approach to teaching and learning in the Department. I can report that we have met this further challenge head-on and we are now fully-engaged with the demands of the Revised Curriculum at KS3. Pupils seem to be responding well to the different approach and hopefully this will reflect in even better exam results in the next few years.

All in all another challenging but rewarding year and I would like to thank all of our mathematics students for their hard work over the year. I would also like to thank the maths teachers – Miss J. McBride, Mrs. E. Mullan and Mr. A. McClarty for their huge contribution and generosity of spirit towards teaching mathematics in Dunluce.
