Modern languages

The Modern Language department enjoyed another busy year, with the introduction of Spanish in the Junior school and the implementation of the revised curriculum for Year 8 French. Pupils enjoyed getting involved in group activities and presenting their work through IT. For instance, they worked in groups to produce café dialogues which they performed to the rest of the class. Motivation levels were extremely high, with all pupils benefiting from the experience. As Jordan Ramage and Curtis McLean commented “This makes French more interesting”, while Abbie Harte added “I loved speaking French and taking the orders”.
Spanish is proving to be very popular and it is hoped we will have a viable number if pupils wishing to pursue Spanish to GCSE level next year. Also Spain was the destination for our school trip this year. In June 28 pupils traveled to Barcelona, accompanied by Mrs. McMullan-Fleck (HOD), Miss Scott and
Mr. Law, where they had the opportunity to experience the Spanish way of life and sample some Spanish cuisine. This was a thoroughly enjoyable trip. Sephen and Gareth McAuley were particularly sad as it was the last occasion they can accompany this trip.
The department had yet another excellent set of GCSE results in French, with almost 70% of all entries attaining a grade C or above. The pupils are to be applauded on their examination success. Modern Languages continues to thrive in Dunluce. Well done and bravo to all our pupils for their excellent effort.
