"Calamity Jane"
Tickets are now on sale from the office for this year School Production, which is the hit musical “Calamity Jane”. Taking us back to the days of the Wild West, this show comes on the heels of last year’s success with “Little Shop of Horrors” and promises to be even better! The cast have been rehearsing since before the summer break and came into this term ‘all guns blazing’.
A great evening is in store for those who come along to the newly-refurbished Chancellor Guy Hall. Local school children will have the opportunity to enjoy the matinee show, but with evening shows expected to sell out, you need to be quick. Tickets cost £6.00 for adults and £4.00 for children (under 16). Seats are allocated on arrival. Performances run for three nights this year: Wed.3rd, Thurs.4th and Fri.5th December, and begin at 7.30 p.m. See you there. YeeeHa!

Previous School Production - "Little Shop of Horrors"
“Heavy plant crossing”. We’ve seen the road signs and wondered what they meant…. Now we know. Now we have the sense to be afraid – very afraid. Our pevious school musical “Little Shop of Horrors” took us into a weird and wonderful world of larger-than-life characters and much-larger-than-life plants! We were transported to an imaginary flower shop where a very unusual and very hungry plant was being grown.... By the time the cast had been eaten by ‘Audrey 2’, we had thoroughly enjoyed one of the highlights of the year.

Under the masterful green fingers of our drama teachers, Mr. McClarty and Mrs. Moore, the cast certainly rose to the occasion. There were no shrinking violets on stage, as each member of the cast had been carefully ‘watered’ and prepared over the past two months. With wonderful help from an all-singing, all-dancing cast, the main characters certainly blossomed…. Enough of this! Heartfelt congratulations are due to the principal cast, consisting of…
Daniel McKee
Emma McKeary
Gavin Darragh
Gillian Goodman
Jenny Mitchell
Jodie McFarlane
Ben Crawford
Andrew McCracken
Christopher Eliot
Sarah Farley
Joshua Cameron
Zac Campbell
Mr. J. Moore
Mr. D. Parker
Thanks are also due to all the staff who helped behind the scenes with staging, lighting, sound and publicity, and to the apprentices (i.e. pupils) who volunteered to help them in their different tasks. We believe the queue of volunteers offering to help sell Morelli’s ice cream during the intervals stretched quite a distance (down the Promenade probably!).
This was a memorable show indeed, enjoyed by two packed audiences on the Wednesday and Thursday evenings, as well as two matinee audiences from local Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as our own Year 8 and 9 pupils. We’ll all certainly think twice about “feeding the plants”!
Well done to everyone who helped to make Little Shop of Horrors such a resounding success. Many more pupils have now caught the acting bug and can hardly wait for the next production. It’s been particularly rewarding to watch new and previously undiscovered talent come to the fore, and pupils reached deep into their hidden store of imagination and ability.
