Year 11 Scouting Success

One of our Year 11 pupils, Liam Wallace, has achieved success in the Scouts. Liam has been an enthusiastic member of the 1st Portstewart Scouts for some time now and, this year, he achieved his Chief Scout Gold Award.  This is the highest award for this section of the scouts and takes a great deal of dedication and hard work.

Here Liam tells us a little about what was involved:

"Over the course of last summer a couple of friends and I decided we would work towards our Chief Scout Award. To do this we had to carry out nine challenges (represented by the diamond on the right side of the chest.

Sound easy? It's not. In order to achieve each of these challenges we had to do nine for the smaller diamonds that make up the main badge.

Two of the challenges that I found memorable were for the community badge. These involved community service tasks - I cleaned beaches for three months, and I dug a trench at the bottom of a field so that the campsite wouldn't flood when it rained and the scouts could still camp."
